This paper showcases my proficiency in citing sources according to MLA guidelines and incorporating local revisions to address specific errors. In adherence to MLA standards, I consistently cite the authors and page numbers, providing a clear reference to the quoted or paraphrased material. For instance, I cite Malcolm Gladwell’s essay “Small Change” and Sam Anderson’s article “The Defense of Distraction” with proper in-text citations (Gladwell, 7) and (Anderson, 5). Throughout the paper, I demonstrate an awareness of sentence errors and employ local revisions to enhance clarity and coherence. In the initial draft, there were instances of fragmented ideas and lack of transitions, hindering the flow of the argument. Through local revisions, I improved the connection between ideas, ensuring a smoother progression of thought. For instance, I strengthened the link between Gladwell’s perspective on social media activism and the potential connection between brain function changes and shifts in activism methods. Additionally, I made precise changes to eliminate redundancy and enhance the precision of the language. In the first draft, the statement, “This makes me question whether as alterations in our brain functions might have a role or influence in the observed changes in activism,” was revised to “It seems to me there may be a potential connection between changes in how our brains operate and shifts in the nature or methods of activism,” eliminating unnecessary phrasing and improving conciseness. Furthermore, I incorporated specific examples from the drafts to support my points. In the earlier draft, I initially presented Gladwell’s perspective but did not connect it explicitly to the changes in social connectivity. In the revised version, I incorporated a direct quote from Gladwell to emphasize the altered social relationships facilitated by online platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The local revisions also involved strengthening the analysis of Anderson’s perspective on attention dynamics and its relevance to activism. The inclusion of a quote from Anderson’s article highlighted the interplay between bottom-up and top-down attention, offering a more nuanced understanding of how individuals allocate their attention in the context of activism. This paper serves as a testament to my ability to adhere to MLA guidelines for source citation and implement local revisions to address specific errors. Through these revisions, I have improved the overall coherence, clarity, and precision of the paper while ensuring a seamless integration of sourced materials to support my arguments.
